For our Metabolic Module focused on water, we needed to take into context our project. First considered its location, Barcelona is known for its hot summers, a small number of rain events, but with a large volume of water in each event. Our program is a sports center that has a gym that requires large amounts of water but also produces significant quantities of greywater that can be taken advantage of or shared with neighbors, it also requires a certain standard of comfort.

The first approach to water consumption was to reduce it by researching low consumption fixtures such as toilets, faucets, and laundry machines.

Another important aspect of our project is the fact that we have a semi-Olympic swimming pool, which we have to replace 5% of its water every day. This water can go forĀ irrigation purposes, by filtering it to lower its chlorine.

This graph shows a calculation of water consumption and reduction annually. Taking into account the number of toilets, flushes, and general user consumption baselines.

Since Barcelona has not many rainy events, the necessary access is to have two tanks of water recollection, one for rainwater and the other one from greywater.

Followed there is are baseline consumptions and yearly proposed reductions per sector, going from laundry, toilets, pool, and other water fixtures.

For our summary, we were available to reach a 55% yearly reduction on water consumption, which amounts to approximately 11.7 Olympic swimming pools, while donating approximately 4.2 Olympic swimming pools worth of greywater to the adjacent educational center.
