IAAC Lecture Series – Nader Tehrani
IAAC Lecture Series – Nader Tehrani
May 9, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
IAAC Lecture Series – Nader Tehrani
Date: May 9th, 2022 Time: 18.00h CET (Barcelona Time) , 12.00h EST (Boston Time)
Title: The Woodpecker’s Delight Event: Master in Mass Timber Design (MMTD) Scholarship
Location: Online Zoom
Lecture Abstract:
In a world increasingly challenged by global warming, it is clear that the construction industry is a major contributor to unsustainable carbon emissions. The identification of naturally renewable resources is a critical factor in determining a sustainable supply chain for the industry, and yet that cannot guarantee the role of architecture in the equation. This lecture will focus on the role of wood, adopted in its hybrid formats to contribute to the cultural and ecological equation in balance.

IAAC Lecture Series > Karolin Schmidbaur & Efilena Baseta
May 10, 2022 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm
C/Pujades 102, 08005 - Barcelona
From sketch to AI
Coop Himmelb(l)au is an international practice with a long history in building construction. With its foundation in 1968, the practice has experienced the shift from the 20th to the 21st century that brought a variety of technological advancements along with new design methods. In this lecture, the design-to-realisation thinking and processes of key projects along that period will be unfolded through an interplay between analog and digital means. Can a pencil sketch be substituted by Artificial Intelligence (AI) design processes? And ultimately; Can architecture with aesthetic values emerge through merely digital workflows?
