RECURSIVE GROWTH

CONCEPT – KOMOREBI

Komorebi is a Japanese word for the effect created when Sunlight filters through the leaves.

This effect can create a dappled shadow on to a surface.

The concept was to create a shade over the Interior pool of Barcelona Pavilion, a 2d tree like shaped  that branched out/bifurcated using a recursive strategy of fractals. A new 3 dimensional shade was then added branching out from center pole  of the initial shaded structure to combine and create one whole shade structure .Vine plants were to be grown on the branches of the shade using a recursive strategy. The effect created from the light filtering through the leaves of the plants creates a temporal texture onto the water and ground.
