PATTERN ILLUSION

What seems to look like a homogenous pattern if viewed from the top is visually transformed
into an optical illusion of volumes. These are created through three levels of different thicknesses,
which portray three sides of a cube. The cubes start off at a specific size and gradually reduce,
manipulating the amount of light that is perceived. What was seen as clear cubes at first giving
the maximum amount of light progressively decrease in amount and size. By pocketing with
the flat 6mm milling bit three distinct levels: 3.5mm, 6.5mm and 9.0mm respectively,
different light shades appear giving the illusion of the cubes’ volumetry.
