Bridge the Gate / Puentear la Puerta

Madrid 40°27′59″N  3°41′16″W

We designed a bridge structure to connect different levels of the twin office buildings, also known as puerta de europa, near the Plaza de Castilla in Madrid, Spain. We hope our design would transform the sense of wariness that a gate may typically provoke into a welcoming sense of connection that bridges embody.

FORM FINDING: MINIMUM SURFACE

DESIGN STRATEGY

  • Applying Minimum surface to reduce wind load
  • Maximizing panel area on the skin of the bridge according to massing solar radiation to harvest sufficient solar power for towers’ daily use
  • Accordingly opening apertures for ventilation plus vegetation in order to counter exterior heating effect caused by radiation, providing interior comfort.
