Valldaura Labs, situated within the Natural Collserola Park which in turn is located in the center of the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona, has a sustainable forest management plan that is both an opportunity and an obligation each year to manage, clean and improve forest areas under the control of Valldaura Labs. There is an excess of 40% of the biomass volume in the park due to many years of abandon. This winter we will work on 8 hc to thin tree density, clear roads and produce wood for future projects.

Forest management will be concentrated in the west area of the main building. Through responsibilities in forest management, Valldaura Labs should cut down trees from the existing biomass excess so that others grow better. With the wood of pine and oak that is cut, the biomass woodchips needed for Valldaura Labs will be produced, as well as wood for the development of projects, structures, facades or interior elements.

This wood will be produced following the principle of “full trace-ability”. The biologist expert in trees, Gerard Passola visited the forest and gave a lecture on Mechanics in the Arboreal structures.
