FARMS IN THE SKY

An urban intervention in Mexico city by incoperating a green network as a first floor between the segundo piso and ground and a new network on the ground inside the lots using the existing network allowing for low income housing existing on the site to produce food by methods of Self sufficient food production by available methods in today’s technology.

this intervention is introduced into a very dense urban fabric by example taken from the historical concept city Broadacre city designed by  Frank lloyd Wright.

EX NOVO CITY- RE IMAGINED BROADACRES

An ex novo city designed by projecting the idea of Self sufficiency in terms of food production introduced in broadacre city to the future by proposing a form that reduces the size of the surface area needed for Farming by each individual to produce the same amount of food that was intended for the original city and thus increasing the density dramatically of the new city in contrast to the the very low urban density in the proposed broadacre city by Wright. ADAPTING TO THE SEGUNDO PISO IN MEXICO

SITE CHOSEN TO ADAPT THE PROGRAM DUE TO ITS DISTINCTIVE GRID WHICH RESEMBLES THE ESSENCE O F BROADACRE CITY.
LOW INCOME HOUSING AND 4 QUANDRANTS ANALYSED IN THE VERY DENSE URBAN FABRIC

EXTRACTED COURTYARD SPACES FROM ONE OF THE 4 QUADRANTS  SO AS TO NOT INTERRUPT THE EXISTING SITE AND BUILDINGS BY INTRODUCING THE NEW PROGRAM

FACTORIES AND ABANDONED BUILDINGS AT THE EDGE TO THE SEGUNDO PISO

RAMP FROM GROUND

WATER DAM AND EXISTING BUILDINGS

DETECTING OPEN SPACES IN THE DENSE FABRIC AND CALCULATING THE SURFACE AREA TO DETERMINE THE MAXIMUM AMOUNT OF RESIDENTIAL UNITS AND OTHER URBAN PROGRAMS CAN BE INTRODUCED TO EACH OF THESE AREAS WITHOUT DISRUPTING THE EXISTING BUILDINGS AND SITE

EXTRACTION OF PRIMARY ROAD FROM EXISTING FOR ONLY VEHICULAR ACCESS AND PRODUCTION UNITS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE SEGUNDO PISO IN (RED) ON THE GROUND FLOOR

INTRODUCTION OF A NEW NETWORK WITHIN THE LOTS FOR WALKABILITY AND BIKE ACCESS, ALLOWING FOR THE NEGATIVE SPACES IN BETWEEN TO BE USED FOR FARMING AND FOOD PRODUCTION ON THE GROUND FOR THE EXISTING BUILDINGS.

INTRODUCTION OF THE FIRST FLOOR NETWORK BY SHORTEST PATH FROM THE MAIN ROAD NETWORK TO ALL THE DETECTED COURTYARD SPACES .
FIRST FLOOR (YELLOW) IS PERFORATED AT THE CENTER TO ALLOW FOR SUNLIGHT AND TO PASS THROUGH TO THE EXISTING GROUND FLOOR UNDER IT.
FIRST FLOOR CONSISTS OF DIFFERENT PUBLIC PROGRAMS SUCH AS MARKETS, GARDENS AND ORCHARDS AND GARDENS.

PUBLIC SPACES , COMMERCIAL, SCHOOL, HOSPITALS AND PUBLIC GARDENS BRANCHING FROM THE FIRST FLOOR NETWORK INTO THE COURTYARDS AND THE EMPTIED AREA ON TOP OF THE PRODUCTION UNITS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE SEGUNDO PISO

INTRODUCTION OF PROPOSED GEOMETRY AND FORM TO THE SPACES CREATING A FABRIC THAT COEXISTS WITH PRIVATE AND SHARED FARMS, ORCHARDS, GARDENS , VINEYARDS, AND ROOFTOP FARMS FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL UNIT WITH THE MEANS OF HYDROPONIC FARMING AND LANDSCAPE FARMING ALLOWING FOR SELF SUFFICIENCY IN TERMS OF FOOD PRODUCTION.

ADAPTING THE FORM GEOMETRY TO THE SPACES

PROPOSED PUBLIC SPACES WITH RAMP ACCESS TO THE GROUND FROM THE FIRST FLOOR

VERTICAL ACCESS TO MULTIPLY THE AMOUNT OF UNITS PER SURFACE AREA TO INCREASE THE DENSITY
