The aim of the research is to develop a non-linear architecture, one that emerges from the operation of complex systems – generated from the material nature – and questions the established hierarchies that operate within architecture.  The first steps of the research carry out a series of simple material and digital experiments to develop a structural form based on a first principle analysis of the material.

DIGITAL EXPERIMENT [I]   SINGLE NODE STRESSLINES
Framework: A catalogue of attractor point vectors where compiled to determine the orientation logic from a single node. Represented digitally as a magnet point attractor. Findings: Positioned within a grid with this digital experiment we can observe a variance in line density dependant on the location of the node. Conclusion: Considering the node as a single structural point of reference, we can theorise on the possibility of developing multiple nodes between vector lines, representational of structural stress-lines between elements.

PHYSICAL EXPERIMENT [I] PARTICLE BEHAVIOUR STUDIES
The following is a simple experiment exploring the material behaviour of particles between two points on two opposite faces.
PHYSICAL EXPERIMENT [II] BI-FURICATION STRANDS
The following experiment observes the bi-furiction patterning’s occuring between the magnets points.

PHYSICAL EXPERIMENT [III] STRUCTURAL REMODELLING
Framework: The following research experiment is devised as a simple mechanism to develop a catalog of behaviour between the magnet acting as structural nodes and magnetic particles (iron filings) acting as structure in various geometries. Findings: Observations of density, bifurcation patterns, efficient use of particle material between nodes. Conclusion: The experiment will reveal the magnets (multiple-nodes) perform as structural nodes between the particles, and allow the distinction between unfavourable configurations and favourable.
Non-linear Structural Behaviour // Structural Hierarchy //
The next term of the research will focus on the digital and material analysis of the macro; including the structural hierarchies, design variables, limitations and site setting.
