IAAC_Eixample Mapping_grids

1st Proposal

We would like to discover different nationalities and how they scatter though the area. Eixample comprises of many different functions and structures even if Plaças look similar because of the grid plan. It is a residential area while it is also touristic. There are lots of shops, restaurants, cafes, parks and markets. In this first proposal, in a selected Plaça, people passing through the plaça will be asked about their nationalities to understand the general demographics. This will be applied in different hours of the day and this procedure will be repeated in different days; weekdays and weekends.  Nationalities, Hours, and Number of People will be recorded to have an understanding of the cultural demographics of the selected Plaça.

2nd Proposal

Especially in the pedestrian roads and in the corners of the buildings, there are cracks observed. Some parts of the pedestrian paths are renewed but the rest stay broken. Where these cracks are will be observed through the pedestrian paths, roads and corners of buildings.  Numbers will be recorded according to exact places and sizes.

3rd Proposal

The pathways people track. In a grid system , the shortest distance from one point to another is always the same theoretically. We question why people choose different pathways to reach the same point. Traffic lights would be a big reason for this. But is this the only reason behind pathways?

4th Proposal

Chewing Gums on the roads will be observed in their numbers and places. In some streets there are more chewing gums thrown on the floor than the other ones. The time can be counted approximately though the color of them. It is observed that there are more chewing gums thrown on the roads then pedestrian roads.
