architectural production of BIM, a critique of imagery and workflows

ABSTRACT

BIM presents an entirely new realm of possibilities in the world of AEC. However, where it promises to offer smoother execution of complex projects, and greater cohesion across disciplines, it also produces repetitive architecture, where prompts and parameters are not questioned and become ubiquitous in design, producing repeatable, a-contextual architecture.

This podcast engages in conversation with experts in the field of BIM software development Matteo Cominetti and  Alan Rynne from Speckle.Systems and architectural theory Ellie Abrons from T+E+A+M and University of Michigan’s Taubman College of Architecture to discuss the risks and potentials of the software. In our conversations we explore how and why contemporary practices in BIM are problematic, as well as its potential in data management and agile workflows in an increasingly complex AEC ecosystem.
