G03_ Mapping assignment 3 & 4 : ZOOM IN!

November 7th, 2007 admin Posted in mapping | No Comments »

3. The global shopping team is “investigating” the old city center zooming in and using more flexible smaller groups. One of them (Marcelo Riva, Jurgen Weiss, Vikrant Sharma and me) has an eye on the Born area. The first attempt was to gather as much information we could for each one of the shop’s we met, in terms of time sequence, nationalities, size and products.

4. The second target was to move towards a 3-dimentional point of view, trying at the same time, not only to give the gathered information but also to show it. The proposed map aims at a more abstractive representation model, used to sign the possible function of a shop: it has to declare itself and it has to make you get inside.

The time analysis is organized in a different map presenting how the given area is switching on and off several times a day.

1_ Expose yourself (with a little help)

www.eyebeam.org/reblog/  is a reblog created from the Eyebeam organization, an art and technology centre in New York. It focuses on digital research and experimentation, acting as an open source, open content and open distribution factor for emerging art forms. Its main faction is to fuse the artistic production without the interference of the market. So this blog is the place that various independent artists can expose themselves (after a procedure of selection). The organization also cooperates with other similar groups, hosts alternative political- art practices and stay alive through donations.

2_  4th generation worriers

http://globalguerrillas.typepad.com/globalguerrillas/  is a blog dedicated to a new type (as it claims) of warfare and violence. It focuses, exclusively through essays, to the emergent communities dedicated to war, hybrid gangs, private military companies and the new meaning of “safety” in global politics. The author, John Robb, doesn’t seem to take sides, but he provides various scenarios and (amongst other things) the way to construct your own homemade microwave weapons.
