Exploded City

June 26th, 2008 sarkawt.noori@iaac.net Posted in Sarkawt Noori | No Comments »

Absolutely after those wars that Iraq had been going through for sure so

many changes have been happened, so here we try to focus on two main

phenomenons appeared because of those wars and the effect of those wars

on cities inside Iraq and also outside Iraq.

1. First phenomenon is migration which appeared from early 80s since

recent day due to last government (Sadam Hussain) harmful on the

population and also the chain of wars happened since his government.

2. Securities and guardian service that appeared inside the cities as a

reflection of terrorist attack on those cities and guarding those targets that

may be attacked.

And from those we it can lead us to conclude two type of city that one of them

is fear city and the second is linked city and also those both cities are create

exploded city.

design process

June 20th, 2008 anastasia.fragoudi@iaac.net Posted in Anastasia Fragoudi, Uncategorized | No Comments »

The goal is to create a prefabricated house unit that can be portable, modular, self-sufficient, customized and adapted to environmental conditions. The module is a two layered skin that consists of an exterior and an interior “shell”. The interior “shell” is the space where the house unit is active and the exterior “shell” is protecting the house unit providing all the infrastructure needed for it. The prototype unit consists of two rectangulars one into the other having a distance of 1 metre between them. The unit is portable, it is easily transferred on site and mantled and dismantled quickly. It is also modular since it’s shape can grow both horizontally and vertically.

The exterior “shell” is equipped with photovoltaic panels in the form of blinds providing electricity for the house unit and working as a shading device for the interior “shell”. On the exterior “shell” there are also solar evacuated tubes that produce hot water for the house unit. The hot water produced serves for heating but also for cooling of the interior “shell” through the use of an absorption chiller. The exterior “shell” has the ability to collect rainwater that can be stored in a tank underneath the unit where it is purified and then used by the house unit. The grey water produced by the residence is also stored in a tank underneath the prototype unit where it is purified and reused by the house unit.

research in contemorary dwellings

June 20th, 2008 anastasia.fragoudi@iaac.net Posted in Anastasia Fragoudi | No Comments »

Beginning researching into the field of contemporary dwellings around the world one can easily observe that most traditional dwellings are constructed from local materials and are adapted to environmental conditions. Contemporary dwellings are more globalized and have almost no identity of locality, they could be anywhere in the world.

Looking into prefabricated dwellings most of them are involved with sustainability issues, trying to implement into the design technologies that make the dwelling more self-sufficient. Most prefabricated dwellings are designed taking into account the minimum spatial requirements needed for the activities of a house unit. Portability and modularity are two more issues that most prefabricated dwellings are involved with in an attempt to be more customized and approachable to the public.

The proposal seeks to be somewhere in between “landscape” and “architecture” and work as a device to activate dead parts of consolidate cities. It is a skin that can work as a surface or can wrap some volume inside to be inhabited.-Due to its flexibility can be placed on rooftops, abandoned sites, facades, the water…

The idea is to load with program and devices the skin itself to build a complex membrane able to regenerate any pre-existing place
