Bogota is the capital of Colombia, located in the northwest of South America it possesses a strategic situation in regard to the region. The project Bogota 2021 thinks about how to strengthen existing urban relations and to approach development potentials. The city has clearly defined north-south relations, nevertheless potential for development of the city exists in the west axis where the international airport of El Dorado is located. This airport is 4th most important hub of South America in terms of passengers traffic, and number 1 in terms of transport to the region. Therefore, Bogota has become a “hub” of significant hierarchy on a global scale.
The research project developed by IaaC is focused on certain urban interventions along the axis formed by the center of the city and the airport. These interventions are mainly centered around:
1 - urban Renewal in the area of San Bernardo. New neighborhoods and an axis of connection between two points.
2 - Strengthening the financial center of the city.
3 - Creating a hierarchy of landmarks in the city. Towers of landscape and architectural importance.
4 - Proposal of a linear commemorative park celebrating the bicentennial of the independence of Colombia
5 - Proposal of a park to lodge the International Exhibition: Bogota 2017.
