Mediterranean Cities: Venice, Italy - Water City

May 8th, 2008 Gerardo Medina Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

Venice started as a lonley island, in the Venice Lagoon, and with the economic growth, thanks to the tourism, it has evolved like a seed evolves to a tree. Its unique roads of water within the city gives a more open flow of transit, making it more dynamic than the traditional urban fabric. Mestre is the land conection of venice. It contains the industrial zone on one side and a suburban spread on the other side and on the further regions. Venice is consider the third most used airport of Italy, and its location serves as a pathway to other countries of the European Union.

World Cities: Sydney, Australia - Water/Air/Urban Symbiosis

May 8th, 2008 Gerardo Medina Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

Sydney is a Port City, from the history of its fundation, to the Metropolis that exist today, thanks to the growing income on tourism and exports. In its center, the urban fabric relates to the shores and ports but mantaining its order, while the suburban spread, moves randomly following the topography. When we analyze the means of transport, we can clearly see a direct conection between Airport, Railroad Station, Ports and Highways, forming symbiosis in wich the city can live thanks to the income provided by it, and the system metioned before can’t live without Sydney.
