SO.9 – Elective Seminar
URBAN NEXT
Tutors: Daniel Ibañez

Surpassing the inherited legacy of city-centric conceptualizations of urbanization processes, this workshop explores the agency of material flows to redraw conventional understanding of urbanism through the lens of metabolic and ecological processes.  In the context where more than 70% of the world’s surface is used by human processes, but, only a 3.5% of that surface is labeled as ‘urban’ area, this workshop aims to represent and uncover the sites, spaces and territories that support urban life. The goal is to understand the interdependency between cities and distant territories as powerful way to make claims about ‘sustainability.’
