From the mid-eighteenth century through to the present day, architecture has been repeatedly imagined, defined or designed as a machine.

Describing architecture as a machine has, in various epochs and in the light of changing technologies, always implied paying attention to its performative properties ranging from design to construction and use.

Such performative properties manifest themselves in technical apparatus, or in other physical conditions like hardware.

In information technology, hardware is the physical aspect of computers, telecommunications, and other devices.

Advanced industrial systems, in association with the digital world, enable the production of pieces with an absolute flexibility and complexity that pushed the boundaries of the construction industry and transformed the architectural and urban design fields.

Per example, the architect’s drawings, in digital format, are assimilated by the machine to produce the needed pieces to construct a surface or a complex structure.
