Future Mobility Infrastructure in Somerville

When approached with the challenge of proposing a future mobility implementation plan in Somerville, MA we decided to showcase the implementation of new technologies to question mobility patterns and citizen behaviour for the generation of an adaptable urban ecosystem that is responsive to future demands.

METHODOLOGY

  • Scalability: potential of a system to be enlarged in order to accomodate growth.
  • Adaptability: potential of a system to be enlarged in order to accomodate growth. flexible capacity of fitting and/or moulding a conceptual, abstract, strategy to specific, concrete or conditions.  Manuel Gausa, Metapolis

Instead of a concrete master plan, an adaptable action plan is proposed. This diagram shows how technology, mobility and infrastructure affect each other in time. In our proposal mobility oriented infrastructure is the core that has economical, social and cultural impacts. Technology feeds infrastructure in order to create future new opportunities.
