Evolution of Columns

Introduction:

An Exercise for the students to understand a grasshopper component named ‘Galapagos’. Here the students were offer to choose some topic from their studio or other seminars and run the script through this Component and get a precise iterations of the designs possible with the same material and property.

Procedure:

  1. The Grasshopper component named ‘Galapagos’ which is used to obtain iterations of a particular design
  2. The students used one of their studio topics to enhance their script using this components and get a better results for the drawings for the same materials and better strength.
  3. Here, in this project a script from the seminar – bifurcation , were the students had to digitally design columns was used as the reference for this seminar.
  4. the script from the Bifurcation seminar was connected to the Galapagos to get the best result with small changes in each one.
  5. Here, one can edit the script by giving it the conditions of how the iterations must be.
  6. As a result , 50 different designs of the columns were obtained and from that the most optimized once where selected and enhanced more in the physical world.
