d.twts(): Traffic Incident Tweets

Metro Manila is the busiest urban area in the Philippines. As the traffic congestion continues to intensify due to poor urban planning, increasing traffic incidents comes along with it.

Today, social media platforms have numerous functions such as information dissemination. In Twitter, the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) constantly updates their page for traffic accident reports. Due to time constraints, only the month of December 2018 was chosen to extract and parse the data from as it has 50-50 work to holiday ratio.

The result reflects a portion of the poor urban environment of Metro Manila having a total of 721 cases reported. It is now for the government to start setting directions in transforming the city of cities towards a place with zero or lesser traffic accidents through promoting the use of public transport, safer urban design and greater public awareness.

The project is inspired by Manila Traffic Data Incidents Reported by the Metro Manila Development Authority Twitter Page by Panji Brokoisworo.

Dataset was curated manually through advance data search for Twitter and Excel.
