In our final presentation of the seminar hyperhabitat we presented digitally our research stage, our final diagrams that represent graphically the information that we got through this research, our conclusions after the analysis of all stages that the water is going through from the stage of extraction till the stage of treatment and finally some innovative technologies that can be applied in the sectors of water saving, of water purification, of water treatment and of water storage that can help to improve the water cycle of a typical city aiming in the ideal city; the sustainable city.

In this last presentation of the 2nd phase of the seminar we focused in the comparison of the different water cycle of four cities; Barcelona, Athens, Mumbai and Reykjavik. The comparison emphasizes on the differentiation of the water supply sources, of the purification phase, of the way of distribution, of the water consumption and of the waste water treatment.

During this week we developed the water percentages diagrams aiming to relate them with the physical space of each city and finally compare their scale.

The diagram above represents the percentages of water during each circulation in four different cities; Barcelona, Athens, Reykjavic and Mumbai. Each square unit represents 1% of the total amount of water source in each city, as long as each division during each purification, distribution, consumption and finally each treatment. (the water distribution in Barcelona is still under development as long as the sewer network in Reykjavic).

Abstract

ORGANISATION – DEMARCATION – OWNERSHIP

If ORGANISATION of a commune observes a framework of social institutions, protocols and customs, its physical project attempts a planning exercise to allocate space for community’s various activities. This division of space to accommodate programs, a DEMARCATION of territory, attaches value to an otherwise surplus plane and makes it PROPERTY. In a capitalist environment, it gives birth to the idea of ownership.

Negotiating between this value of territory and its possible programmatic occupations is the argument of all planning proposals. If cities are first economic places (Saskia Sassen) then the idea of property and hence ownership informs the distribution of programs.
