Firstly I like to thank all students for their varied and dedicated contributions to the experimetal structures seminar. I was very pleased with the scope of the presentations and outcomes and how most of took up the challenge to look at structural enginering in a less traditional way. 

I attach a copy of a paper from this years Institution of Structural Engineers centinary conference in Hong Kong which shows that these debates regarding the role of structural engineers within the design process also take part within the engineering institutions.

The final assigment for the experimental structures module was to create a soft structure.
 The project takes the idea of a soft structure and proposes a pneumatic structure.
 This structure can be an installation that covering any space and it could be located in any place;
 or to provide a surface where people can perform different sports or activities outdoors.

After 8 weeks of intense research, we have developed our Studio project for the final presentation.

Our project aims to provide housing for a population of 10,000 refugees in Sudan. We are challenged by the limited resources, extreme climate conditions and complex sustainable aspects. We took an approach of “evolutionary structures” that will adapt over time….”live organic structures” rather than a controlled and closed perspective of traditional architectural projects.
