Nikos A. Salingaros is a mathematician and polymath known for his work on urban, architectural, complexity and design philosophy and theory. Salingaros has a harsh critical analysis of conventional modern architecture. He began to explore the deep connection between science and architecture and writing papers looking at architectural problems in a scientific way making important contributions to the field. During his lecture at IAAC he spoke about the cities as systems of informational architecture with a high-level functionality. Information exchange in urban systems includes visual input from the environment, personal contact, telecommunications, and the movement of people. Nikos A. Salingaros MA PhD ICTP CNU ICAA has derived design rules through scientific inquiry, which replace images driven by ideology. He is the author of six monographs on architectural and urban design translated into six languages, and over 130 scientific papers. Dr. Salingaros is a leader in the developing disciplines of Complexity and Biophilia. He was selected by UTNE Reader as one of the “50 Visionaries who are Changing Your World” in 2008. In Planetizen’s 2009 survey, he was ranked 11th among “The Top Urban Thinkers of All Time”. He is Professor of Mathematics at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
